Our mission here at Fitness By Design is to help you achieve your personal fitness goals. One of the most effective ways we’ve found to achieve these goals is to work with a personal trainer—the individual attention and customized workout plans give you the support you need to make progress on your quest to improve your health and fitness.
As with all things, however, some personal trainers are better than others, whether that’s due to their qualifications or just the way they fit with your personality. To help you get the most from your personal training experience, our team at Fitness By Design has put together a few tips on how to find the right personal trainer.
- Check Their Credentials- When choosing a personal trainer, make sure to ask about their credentials. Qualified personal trainers will have certification from an accredited institution such as the American Council on Exercise (ACE) or the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Credentials from these or similar institutions prove that your personal trainer candidate has the right understanding of anatomy and exercise to create workouts that are both effective and safe.
- Check Their Experience- After credentials, make sure to establish your personal trainer candidate’s experience. For best results, go with a trainer who has worked with many clients and has had time to refine their methods over one with fresh certifications but no hands-on experience.
- Check Their Personality- Your results from personal training will be largely determined by your rapport with your trainer. Figure out what style of feedback best motivates you—i.e. gentle praise vs. tough love—and talk to various candidates to find a personal trainer who is good at providing that type of reinforcement.
