Starting something new is always a little scary! If you are trying pilates for the first time, you may not be sure if it is right for you, and you may be wondering how you can prepare for your first class. It’s important to remember that everyone was a beginner at one point, and no one is going to judge you on how you do.
- Prepare to Be Sore – You are going to feel the burn during and after the workout. Pilates focuses on your core and strengthening different muscle groups. During the workout you are going to feel your muscles, and you may sore the next day. Make sure to incorporate a rest day into your workout routine to help your muscles recover.
- Wear the Right Clothes – If you’ve never been to a yoga or pilates class before, you may not be used to wearing body-hugging workout clothes. You may want to consider wearing yoga pants and a tank top to your Pilates class, as looser fitting clothes may get in the way. You may also want to consider grip socks. You can do pilates barefoot, but if you prepare to have something on your feet, grip socks are the way to go.
- Don’t Be Intimated by the Lingo – During your first class, you may hear a lot of words you aren’t familiar with. Don’t be intimated by this and ask your instructor as many questions as you need to, so you feel comfortable.
Starting something new should be exciting. Make sure to ask questions and have fun!
